A museum of a special kind: the Simplon Fortress of Naters

Experience at first hand the army positions at the outbreak of war, the retreat of the Swiss army into the Reduit, the former armament and much more.

The Second World War is palpable and omnipresent in the historic tunnels. The museum of the Simplon Fortress Naters conveys an unforgettable impression of those ominous times. But it also shows the unbroken will of the army and the Swiss people to defend themselves.

In addition to the museum of the Simplon Fortress Naters, the artillery fortress also houses other interesting exhibitions:

The Simplon Fortress Naters can be reached both by car and by train. If you come by car, you will find free parking underneath the Simplon Fortress Naters. From there you can reach the fortress in about 5 minutes on foot. Parking in front of the fortress is only permitted for disabled persons!

Alternatively, you can take the train to Brig station and from there walk to the Simplon Fortress Naters. The walking time is about 20 - 30 minutes. There are a few metres of altitude to contend with on the last section.
