Monument

Mundstein

Above Mund rises an oval, mighty rock called the Mundstein, on which a cross stands.

There is a legend about this rock: once the devil was very angry with the people of Munder who had started to build a church. He therefore carried a huge stone on his hump from the Baltschiedertal to let it roll down to the church.

By chance, a pious woman met him. She was not a little startled and cried out: "Jesus, Mary and Joseph! Where are you going so early with that stone?" For the sake of the three holy names, the devil had to drop the curse where it still stands today.

In the "Blasi" you can still see a devil's kick and the devil's footprints on the mouth stone. But so that the devil would refrain from any further similar attempt, a cross was erected on the mouth stone.
