Shepherd's weekend

06. – 07.09.2025
On the first weekend in September, the inhabitants of Naters celebrate the well-known "Schäful" on the Belalp. The sheep, which have spent the summer in the Inner Aletschji, return to the valley. Guests can look forward to a traditional supporting programme with fine Valais specialities and plenty of country music that invites them to dance.

Procedure

The sheep are driven from the Aletschji up to the Aletschbord by the Sanners on Saturday. Once at the top, they are warmly welcomed by the numerous guests. Later in the afternoon, the animals are driven to the Färricha. These are brick-built sheep enclosures. On Sunday, the sheep are separated so that each farmer can see whether all his sheep have made it back.
